The Tucson Bead Show presents one of the most comprehensive workshop programs anywhere, giving participants a chance to learn from some of the finest talent in the country, including these well-known artisans and bead makers: Paula Radke, Diane Whiting, Christi Friesen, Lilian Chen, Marilyn Gardiner, Tracy Nelligan, Kim Rueth, and Carole Witt.
Key workshop subjects include polymer clay, wire work, jewelry design, hand knotting, beadwork, drop spindling, bead weaving, chainmail, wire crochet, glass clay, soldering, metal and wirework, mixed media, glass pendants, and resin jewelry making.
Workshops are taught at “all levels”, “beginner”, “intermediate”, and “advanced”, and will present useful, step-by-step, hands-on instruction for all skill levels. The “beginner” workshops will teach simple handwork techniques, and “intermediate” and “advanced” workshops may have the need for some skills such as wire working and are recommended for students who already have some experience or have completed one of the “beginner” classes offered. Most include materials and tools, but some advanced workshops require the participant to supply their own. Check with the workshop instructor for a complete listing of materials and tools that are provided.
Workshops and classes are scheduled every day of the show and are between 2 to 5 hours, but some may take up to 8 hours depending on techniques and skills being taught. There are design performances, mini-workshops, “make & takes”, and demonstrations, throughout the show, every day, normally lasting about 30 minutes, which offer a glimpse into various artisan skills.
The workshops provide a great opportunity to learn from some of the finest talent in the country. Learn a new handwork skill or take your designs to a new level. Early reservations for workshops are recommended. To register, follow the directions for registering online, by phone, or email, located at the end of the workshop descriptions on the workshop list.
